This stylistic decision was made while still a side project for Faulkner, inspired by a slew of Game Boy games he had been playing in his personal time. Mina the Hollower was designed to mimic the visual appearance of a Game Boy Color title. A Kickstarter campaign was launched to support development, which raised over US$1.2 million from 21,439 backers including other sources of crowdfunding, the game raised over USD$1.4 million for the studio. Development on the solo affair, now under the name Gothic, caught the attention of Yacht Club management, who viewed the title as a favourable pairing to the studio's flagship Shovel Knight series. Mina the Hollower originally began as a side project by Yacht Club Games employee Alec Faulkner to hone his coding and artistic capabilities, and was not originally intended for commercial release. Standing in her way is Thorne, a bat who was the former head of Lionel's guard before he and his shock troopers betrayed the Baron and destroyed the generators. She travels to Tenebrous Isle, home of Baron Lionel, a wealthy lion who has been Mina's patron in installing her technology on the isle, leading to rapid development. She wields a whip, Nightstar, as a weapon. She is a Hollower, a member of a guild dedicated to studying the Earth, and can move extremely fast while underground using a technique known as hollowing. The game's main character is Mina, a genius inventor and mouse who has created advances in Spark Technology. One of the levels is Nox's Bayou, a poisonous swamp containing one of the generators. Eurogamer's Christian Donlan recently got his hands on Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon, where he called it an "an awful lot of fun", despite not typically being a fan of falling block puzzle games.Mina the Hollower is an upcoming action-adventure game by Yacht Club Games. Meanwhile, Shovel Knight keeps going from strength to strength. At the time of writing, it is already around £260k. It's almost as if Castlevania and Link's Awakening had a baby, and that baby was Mina The Hollower. As if this didn't sound compelling enough on its own, the whole game is stylised as an homage to handheld games of the Game Boy Color era, with pixelated foes, a top-down perspective and (something vital for any Game Boy game) a glorious chiptune soundtrack. On a quest to save a cursed island from the perils that have befallen it, Mina must "leap, dodge, and burrow through the ground" while fighting off monsters with her trusty whip Nightstar or other various trinkets and sidearms. Yacht Club has promised players a "bone chilling" experience. Don't let their cute façade fool you though. Rather, this time players will have the chance to take on the mantle of Mina, an adorable but lethal mouse. In a first for the company, the game has nothing to do with Shovel Knight. The next game from Yacht Club Games, the developer famous for Shovel Knight, has been revealed: a brand-new project known as Mina The Hollower.
